Elisabeth discovers Natural Horsemanship in France

Elisabeth de Corbigny started breeding Quarter Horses in Ariège in the south west of France in 1991.  Her interest in western riding led her to the USA where she did various courses so that she could compete with her horses.

In 1995 she heard about John Lyons, Pat Parelli and Monty Roberts, who were already well-known on the other side of the Atlantic.  She became increasingly interested in their methods of training, and it was after courses with John Lyons that really got her going.

It wasn’t just western riding that interested her, but a more ethological and natural approach to riding, something that could be applied to any horse and any discipline.  She was drawn by the idea of a way of riding without violence or constraint, and of establishing a relationship of confidence and harmony with the horse.

Elisabeth de Corbigny has given demonstrations and held courses all over France and Europe and written many magazine articles.  Her book “Equitation Ethologique” (only available in French) has become a best seller and many top class riders go to her for help with their horses, as they believe in the effectiveness of her method.

The Ecole National d’Equitation (French National Riding School) in Saumur and the FFE (French Federation of Equitation) have organised demonstrations of natural horsemanship so that riding instructors may be taught these techniques.

Elisabeth de Corbigny considers she still has more to learn and continues to try to perfect her technique.
