How do the French see the CSO?
In their own words....
It is the jumping of a course of obstacles, connected within a course without fault. The tests are intended to show in the pony/horse its frankness, its power, its address, its speed and its respect of the obstacle. And in the competitor, the quality of their horsemanship.
The jump of obstacles is the leading discipline in France. It represents more than 80% of the contest activity, as well in terms of candidates, as of tests or engagements in competition. It has the advantage of being a discipline easy to include/understand. The neophyte sees whether the bar falls or not and the stopwatch known which goes quickest on the lathe. Even if subtleties of judgement meet sometimes, the verdict of the bars and the stopwatch is accepted by all. It is a discipline which becomes increasingly technical. The bars are reduced, one alternates the long strides where the horse must extend and short strides where it must be compressed..........
