There are many Animal Welfare Associations within France.
These are either individually or privately set up and run or National and Internationally recognised organisations. Those nationally recognised are usually managed within the Departments and therefore only deal with animals in that locality and differ greatly with regard to their procedure and management.
There are Welfare groups, Rescue Centres and Sanctuaries and Advice Centres.
If you find stray animals either the local vet or Mairie will usually give advice. Be prepared however to stand firm if you do not wish the animal to be sent to the local pound, where it will get a week of ‘hoping the owner’ or often a better scenario, ‘new owner’ to claim them, before euthanasia. On the other hand you may have a battle getting anyone to take responsibility for the stray. Turning a blind eye sadly is not an uncommon fact of life in France. Stray and unwanted and often neglected animals are part of life and can often go either unseen or ignored!
FH&C will be bringing you more information on non-profit making ventures and is happy to consider the offer of free promotion space to such registered organisations. Please feel free to contact us to submit details. We look forward to hearing from you.
